We've been able to get out to the pasture in the evenings for most of this past week. Some progress has been made on the hut addition. To get logs the right size, we burnt several big logs in half to use for the frame of the hut.
We've also taken some gourds we had dried from last year to play with. They hold water really well. Part of a tree fell over (it grew out of the bottom of a old rotten tree and fell over because the base had rotted out. It is basically a full size tree.) and we used some of its young branches to make string from the bark. To do that, we peeled the bark off the twig in long strips then twisted or braided it and knotted it at both ends. Hopefully by the end of next week, we will have a post on the completed hut addition.

While our cousins were visiting, we built little huts out in our woods and we are still working on them. It was really fun to build it with cousins. We lit small campfires and had s'mores and a picnic.
The lean to we built and were going to finish collapsed, so now we are working on expanding the wooden hut. It has been rainy this whole week, but we went out anyway. We only did most of the main frame done for the mud hut expansion. We were going to light a fire, but it was too wet and it was smoky right where we wanted to work. |
