Awhile ago, I had decided to make a wordless book. I have always loved the Polo wordless books by Regis Faller, so I made my book somewhat similar. I also read a picture book with a neat lighthouse illustration which I pretty much copied. I sketched out a story plan, then sketched out the pictures in pencil on some big sheets of paper. I had gotten a few of the pencil sketches inked over, but then sort of got tired of the project and put it away. Later, I got it out and completed the pencil sketches and then put it away.....again. Finally, I got it out once more and am determined to finish it. I got all the pen drawing done and erased all the pencil marks. I photographed the ink drawings and tried to scan them into the computer as well (that didn't work) because I wanted images of the drawings before I added color.
At last, I began the coloring process (my favorite part). For the sky I used chalk pastel and for the smaller, more detailed drawings I used and will be using watercolor pencil. Although I really like watercolor best, I prefer to use watercolor pencils with this project because: 1. the type of paper I'm using would NOT work with watercolors well, 2. the watercolor pencils allow me to get intense color without doing tons of layers and 3. I really like the way they look with pen drawings. This is only the first spread of pictures. I still have three big sheets to finish, which equals six smaller pages. I folded a large piece of paper in half to make two smaller pages.
